In an Instagram reel posted on the Young Lung Cancer Initiative page, she shared the symptoms. This reel was uploaded on 23 October 2024 but Linda sadly passed away on 13 January 2025. It was told that her condition was critical and the cancer had spread to her brain and bones.

Persistent cough

Speaking in the Instagram reel, Linda said that the first thing is cough. I had a cough for years and I can honestly say that it lasted for years. She told that it started as a mild cough, but "eventually it became deep, very painful and it felt like there was a pricking in the chest. Linda advised people not to ignore persistent cough.

Headaches

Cancer Research UK says it's rare but some types of lung cancer cells produce hormones that get into the bloodstream. These hormones can cause symptoms that may be linked to lung cancer. One example of these hormone symptoms is headaches.

Bone and body pain

Linda said she had pain in her bones and body. She said it felt like the initial pain when you stub your toe. Both the NHS and Cancer Research UK consider chest or shoulder pain to be a sign of lung cancer, and the Macmillan Cancer Report says a less common symptom is pain in the shoulder that radiates down the arm.

Preventing lung cancer

1. Stay away from people who smoke.

2. Quit smoking.

3. Avoid things that can cause cancer.

4. Take measures to reduce radon in your home.

5. Exercise daily.

6. Keep your weight under control.
