Diabetes Causes: People with fatty liver are also at risk of diabetes? What do experts say

Diabetes Causes: Fatty liver causes many diseases in the body, one of which is a new disease called diabetes. Let's know what health experts say about this?

Diabetes Causes: Fatty liver was known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now it is known as metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease (MASLD). The change in its name reflects its strong association with metabolic disorders and metabolic syndrome. MASLD is emerging as a serious concern, with recent studies showing an increase in its prevalence from 9 percent to 53 percent in the Indian population, especially in people with diabetes and high cholesterol.

Fatty liver is a serious health problem as it can lead to cirrhosis and liver disease in the long term. The question also arises as to how fatty liver is causing diabetes. Dr. Pratibha Sethi, Consultant in Medical Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospital, Jayanagar, shared information about why fatty liver is causing new diabetes and how it can be prevented?

What do health experts say

According to Dr. Pratibha Sethi, changing lifestyle is one of the causes of MASLD. Poor eating habits, not keeping the body active and being under stress increase the risk of MASLD. This condition is closely associated with metabolic syndrome, which includes obesity, high blood pressure and insulin resistance. All of these lead to accumulation of fat in the liver.
